On Wednesday, February 5th, The American Legion Amateur Radio Club (TALARC) held a special EchoLink Conference Net, providing an opportunity for members to connect directly with The American Legion National Commander, James A. LaCoursiere Jr. The event was coordinated by Jeff, W6BYS, with Mark, WB5VDG, acting as Net Control.
A key moment of the net came when Commander LaCoursiere addressed participants, expressing his gratitude for their ongoing efforts and commitment. “Thank you, everybody, for everything that you do. And, let’s all be the one,” he stated, referencing the Legion’s Be The One initiative, which focuses on veteran suicide prevention.
Although his message was brief due to a demanding schedule, his words resonated strongly with those in attendance. The sentiment reflected the Legion’s ongoing mission to support veterans and their families, particularly through advocacy and community outreach.
TALARC’s EchoLink nets provide a vital platform for licensed amateur radio operators who are American Legion members to engage in fellowship and promote the organization’s initiatives. The ability to facilitate direct communication with leadership demonstrates the strength of this network and the shared commitment to veteran well-being.
The event reinforced the significance of amateur radio within the American Legion and underscored the organization’s dedication to vital causes like Be The One. Participants expressed appreciation for the Commander’s acknowledgment and the continued engagement of TALARC members in promoting awareness and support for veterans in need.
With each net, TALARC continues to uphold the values of service and communication, fostering a strong and connected community dedicated to the mission of the American Legion.
